A guide to configuring the Avigilon Alta integration to automatically manage door access based on your FMX calendar.

How it Works

The FMX integration with Avigilon Alta connects your facility schedule directly to your access control system. A user will submit a Schedule Request in FMX and check a custom field named “Doors” to engage the integration. The Resources associated with the request are mapped to a corresponding list of doors in Avigilon Alta.

The request will go through its normal approval workflow until it reaches a “Finalized and Upcoming” status. At the event's start time, FMX sends a command to trigger a pre-defined state in Avigilon Alta (e.g., "Unlocked"). At the event's end time, FMX sends another command to return the door to its default state (e.g., "Locked").

Unlike other access control integrations, the Avigilon Alta integration supports customer-defined door states, allowing for more flexible access rules beyond simple lock and unlock commands.

Viewing Door Mappings in FMX

Once the integration is configured by the FMX team, the mapping between FMX Resources and Avigilon Alta doors will be visible on the Resource level in your FMX site.

Additionally, users will see a non-editable custom field on the Resource record that displays the Avigilon control numbers. This field is necessary for the integration to map FMX Resources to their corresponding doors in Avigilon.

Setup Steps

Once you have purchased the integration, please complete the following steps.

  1. Create a Service Account in Avigilon: Create a new, dedicated user account in your Avigilon Alta system. This account must have the necessary permissions to change the state of all doors that you wish to control through FMX.
  2. Enable FMX API Access: To allow FMX to communicate with your Avigilon Alta system, you must whitelist the FMX IP addresses. Your account manager or customer success manager will provide you with the addresses that need to be whitelisted.
  3. Prepare Door-to-Resource Mapping: Create a spreadsheet or document that clearly maps each door in Avigilon Alta to its corresponding schedulable Resource in FMX. For example:
    • Main Gymnasium Door = Gymnasium A
    • Auditorium West Entrance = Auditorium
  4. Contact FMX Support: Once the steps above are complete, contact the FMX Support team and provide the following:
    • Login credentials for the Avigilon Alta service account.
    • The door-to-resource mapping file.
    • The name of a test door that can be used to verify the connection.
